A rural classic!
The Church Times recently reviewed Charles Moseley’s To an Eel Island and in the opening paragraph the reviewer, the Revd Richard Greatrex wrote: ‘Acclamations gracing the covers suggest a new rural classic, along the lines of George Ewart Evans, Ronald Blythe, or Robert Ashton.’
At a time where my publisher Unbound has gone bust, and I’m in the process of signing with another publishers, who is planning to launch a paperback edition of Where are the Fellows who Cut the Hay in February 2026, this review gave a much needed boost to my morale as a writer.
My goal, in writing about how rural life is changing was to follow in the footsteps of George Ewart Evans, an author I’ve long admired and whose wife taught me at primary school. To be given equal billing to Evans, and another writer I admired, Ronald Blythe, is beyond flattering.
As soon as publication of my book in paperback is confirmed, I’ll be contacting book festivals, independent bookshops, and groups with an interest in rural life to offer to come along and be interviewed about the book, and those that will follow.
