I've worked with start-up entrepreneurs for the past 30 years, but have been surprised by the energy of the one that's just emerged from my home. After 25 years working for someone else, my wife has chosen to do something she enjoys. Belinda Ashton Jewellery has launched after months of careful preparation. I'm impressed.

Of course we should all strive to do what excites us, rather than just what simply pays the bills. Work for money alone can be rather unrewarding. Success for me is increasingly not measured in monetary terms, but in the positive impact my work has on the lives of others. I succeed when I inspire others to succeed, particularly when somebody's told them they can't! Oddly, if you do the right things, then the income tends to appear, but not if money is your sole motivation.

Belinda's business has a social purpose too. She's going to share her profits with the charity Diabetes UK. She's lived with type 1 diabetes since she was 3 so has more than a passing interest in the condition. Take a look at her website and let me know what you think.
