Health & Social Care

Robert AshtonThe move towards personal budgets and direct payments is creating both challenge and opportunity. The transition from convenient block contracts to individualisation has not always been well managed. Both service commissioners and providers have found the process challenging. And often, there is little real choice for the service user.

Yet for the innovative and entrepreneurial here is a growing marketplace for a wide range of services. I work with social enterprises, charities and ‘for profit’ companies seeking to become more active in this marketplace. For example I have or am currently:
  • Helping a disability charity develop and market a comprehensive service portfolio. Profits from purchased services will subsidise service provision to those unable to pay;
  • Health and social careFronting a major fundraising campaign to establish a much needed hospice. This also involves brokering new partnerships and winning NHS commissioner confidence;
  • Encouraged a transport café to successfully diversify into school dinners and means on wheels.

Working with Robert has greatly improved our confidence and ambition in working towards realising our goals. He has at the same time challenged us and opened up new creative possibilities, given us a much clearer view of the other organisations we need to work with, and most importantly given them a better focused and more receptive view of us.
