Challenging prejudice and stigma Prejudice is the product of fear and ignorance. Robert enjoys challenging people to confront their prejudices and see the world in a new way. He introduced the Human Library concept to Norfolk. He also works with people campaigning to change attitudes and perceptions. He knows from personal, family and career experience that to be prejudiced is to miss an opportunity to learn.
Robert believes that confronting prejudice is an important part of building what is being called ‘Big Society’. ‘Only when you understand how and why others are different can you define yourself,’ he explains. ‘We are who we are because of where we are – change the way you view your environment and you change yourself.’ Robert works with excluded groups, helping them create enterprises that play to their strengths.
