Q. How can I generate a winning business idea?
A. Find something you can get passionate about that you think you can improve. Then think about how you can make a business out of improving it.
Q. How can I raise funds for my business?
A. Before looking for money, make sure you really need it. Would customers pay in advance? Would suppliers extend credit?
Q. I need to find an investor in my idea; where should I look?
A. Investors usually demand a stake in the business. Make sure you’re happy to share what you’re creating. Then look at people you already know. Most investors invest in the business of someone they know.
Q. I’m doing OK, but am very busy. How can I find the time to expand?
A. You need a short, focused business plan that sets out the likely cost and return of growing your business. Inevitably your costs will increase before your income. Make sure you can win enough work to sustain the growth.
Q. I’m struggling to find new business. What am I doing wrong?
A. Take a look at your competitors. How are you different and why are you better? If you were a customer, would you buy from your own firm?
Q. What I do is unique; people don’t seem to understand. Why?
A. Describe how what you do differs from things your prospect is familiar with. Nothing is truly unique, simply different in a number of ways.
