Valentine's Day

Enterprise is all about scoring in whatever game you choose to play.

It’s about getting a result, not just a promise. It’s also about getting the return on investment you hoped for.

The way to do this is to be explicit. To say exactly what you want (and what’s in it for them as well as for you). Make the benefits clear, cooperation both affordable and enjoyable and then introduce urgency.

Here are ten ways to make that happen:

  1. Plan well – know what you want to do and be sure to consider what might go wrong and how to recover the situation.
  2. Start early – the sooner you start the more time you have. Stalk your objective rather than fling yourself at it at the very last moment and blow your chances.
  3. Be realistic – Make sure you’re not being too ambitious. Set realistic goals and you’ve more chance of achieving them.
  4. It takes two – Don’t be totally self focused. Consider the benefits to others of playing along with your ideas. Sell those benefits and play down what’s in it for you.
  5. Go prepared – always take what you need to see the job through. Anticipate problems and unexpected opportunities. Be prepared and you’re more likely to succeed.
  6. Be subtle – no one buys anything in response to a full on pitch. Try to be so subtle that it seems like their idea.
  7. Take flowers – everyone likes a nice surprise. In business as well as in love, those small unexpected tokens of appreciation always pay off.
  8. Play fair – once you’ve got the commitment you’re seeking, making sure you play fair. Don’t take more than is offered and don’t deliver less than you promised!
  9. Seek feedback – that old cliché ‘how was it for you’, applies in business as well as in bed. Always seek feedback and act upon it. Only then will your performance improve
  10.  Cross sell – don’t just offer more of the same. Variety is the spice of life and selling new ideas to old conquests is far easier than setting out to find someone new.

There really is no difference between business and love.

Both are emotionally driven and both can only succeed if there

is mutual trust and respect.

Enjoy!
