Not all goals are material
It’s good when considering money to pause a moment and revisit some of those life goals you might have that cost nothing to achieve. We all get too hung up about money so it’s important to keep that balance in your mind between financial success and success in life. Here are some reminders of pleasures that money cannot buy, together with a tip to help you explore each in turn.
10 pleasures that money cannot buy
- True love – The attraction between two people and the deep, lasting relationship that results cannot be bought with money or expensive gifts. Do you have this or is it a life plan goal?
- Health – In fact wealth is likely to prompt health damaging over-indulgence. Equally, poverty doesn’t have to mean a poor diet either. Look after health and the world will seem a brighter place.
- Close friends – It is shared experience, hope, fear and ambition that bring friends together. The more interests you have in common, the easier it is to become and remain close friends. Focus on your friends.
- Helping others – Helping someone else, even if it’s simply carrying an elderly neighbours shopping, can make you feel really good. It’s a good feeling that costs nothing apart from a little time and thought.
- Happiness – Money cannot buy a state of mind. Both extreme poverty and wealth can undermine happiness. Experiences can make you happy in a way that things never can. Seek new experiences all the time.
- Sunsets – Take the time to be outdoors and watch a sunset. The changing colours can be breathtaking. There’s a sunset every evening, but you’re probably too busy to stop and notice. Make time to see.
- Nature – If you live in the concrete jungle of an inner city, nature might be something you’ve not noticed. The natural world moves and changes at its own pace. Take a walk in the country and see it for yourself.
- A good reputation – How you behave dictates how people view you, not how you spend. It’s a pleasure to have a good reputation.
- Long life – You might not be looking forward to old age, but the alternative is far less appealing! You cannot buy longevity, but being active, successful and surrounded by people you know will all help.
- Great sex – Of course you can buy sexual experiences, but the pleasure of these is too often rapidly replaced by feelings of guilt. The best sex is freely given. Make more time for your lover if you have one.
